Dunedin Town Hall Redevelopment
-
This redevelopment transforms the Dunedin Town Hall complex into a contemporary civic venue while respecting its architectural, cultural, and historical significance. As Chief Design Architect, the project focused on improving accessibility, functionality, and building performance through carefully integrated interventions that complement the existing heritage fabric.
The design enhances circulation, spatial clarity, and the visitor experience while preserving the defining character of the Town Hall, Municipal Chambers, and Dunedin Centre. New work is deliberately restrained, allowing the historic architecture to remain the primary focus while supporting the evolving needs of the community.
As one of Dunedin’s most significant civic buildings, the project attracted considerable public and media interest. The result is a revitalised civic landmark that strengthens its role as a cultural and community destination for the city and wider Otago region.
